EXCEPTIONAL HANGING BASKETS BURSTING WITH COLOUR iN 2023 - COLERIDGE DRIVE, NEAR THE BUS STOP
In 2023 a lot of people may have noticed the exceptional hanging baskets at a house on Coleridge Drive, near the bus-stop. Two enormous ball baskets, bursting with colour which stayed beautiful for months. We asked the resident about these - she said lots of people had stopped to take photos of the display. She had bought the baskets, ready planted from a garden centre near Slough. All she had to do was to hang them, keep them watered and wait for all the admiration. We do have the details of the company if anyone would like these - perhaps a way to go unless you have other business in the area, but worth keeping in mind if you do. 1970's MASEFIELD CRESCENT
As featured in our Winter 2022 newsletter - Brian Jones has given us a print of a photo he took of Masefield Crescent at the time it was being developed. As we have written about before, Brian is one of the few remaining original residents of these self-build houses. He says that he took this photo some time in 1970. He must have been standing about where numbers 16 to 20 are now, looking down towards the Drayton Road. Four properties only are there. The bungalow next to the entrance to what would become the playing field looks very well developed already and has one of the only two cars in the road outside! The rest is essentially green field, stretching down to the main road. The only signs of future habitation on the odd numbers side are a few building blocks and what possibly are the foundations of a house. However, clearly visible in the far distance are two of the cooling towers at Didcot. We couldn't get this picture onto the newsletter, but feel free to download a copy via the file on the right, or alternatively contact us on the Contact Page and we can either email you a copy or print it off for you. |
